Speaking of Faith

Faith (from: Wictionary)
Mental acceptance of and confidence in a claim as truth without proof supporting the claim;

I was listening to Speaking of Faith on NPR recently. On this show, there was an Iraqi man who was talking about the conflict between Iraqi Shia and Iraqi Sunni and about why it occurs. There was a lot of discussion related to history, ratios, governments, etc.

There was no discussion of the discussion related to the obvious and actual cause of the problem: FAITH.

It's all very simple:
  • If you don't have a rational reason for a belief it is probably wrong
  • If you live your life according to beliefs that are wrong, it's going to cause problems
People believe religion because they'd like it to be true. End of story.

Of course the Shia and Sunni are slaughtering one another. The Koran is filled with bloodshed.

Of course the Christians discriminate against sexual preference and are sexist: society has evolved in the 4,000 years sine the Old Testament was written.

Of course the Jews war against the Moslems. Invented beliefs don't like to be contradicted.

NPR is irresponsible to present 'Faith' as a good thing. Lies are bad and lies are not excused by the fact that you really wanted to pretend that they are true.
